How to cure anxiety
Anxiety is characterized by feelings of apprehension and fear, and can be accompanied by physical symptoms, such as increased heart rate, sweating, breathing difficulties, body discomforts such as chest or stomach pains, headaches, and so on. Anxiety attacks can happen to anyone of any age, although they tend to occur more commonly in young adults.
To feel anxious is normal – it is something everybody will experience given challenging circumstances – some might feel anxious about getting their results, while others might feel anxious going on a first date, or feel anxious about giving birth.
To cure anxiety, one must first identify what causes one to feel anxious. Stress and fears (fear of the unknown or unfamiliar, fear of dying and so on) are common triggers for anxiety, but heredity and brain chemical imbalance have also been identified as possible triggers for anxiety attacks. How well one is able to cure oneself of anxiety is largely dependent on how successful one is able to identify the root cause of anxiety.
There are many ways to cure anxiety – the simple and safe ways to cure anxiety attacks painlessly and naturally are usually based on the key principle of achieving the opposite effect of feeling anxious, which is to feel relax.
Breathing exercises to help regulate the way you breathe when feeling anxious is a safe and natural way to cure anxiety. Deep abdominal breathing can help one relax and cope with anxiety. Deep abdominal breathing involves deeply breathing in through the nose, and visualizing the breadth traveling all the way down to the abdominal before releasing the breadth slowly out through the mouth.) Breathing exercises is widely used to help mothers during childbirth, but can be also used effectively to help many individuals who suffer from occasional anxiety attacks. Another safe and natural relaxation technique that can help cure anxiety is meditation. Long-term use of meditation as a relaxation technique can produce a calming effect that helps one overcome feelings of anxiety.
Apart from relaxation techniques, developing a good sense of self (self-confidence) can help one overcome anxiety that is caused by fears. One way to develop good self-confidence is to seek out small projects to do and complete within a period of time to boost one’s confidence. Seek help and support from your loved ones during trying times, and if necessary, approach a counsellor or therapist. This approach also helps one break the anxiety cycle (the fear of another occurrence of an anxiety attack).
Another way to cure anxiety is to consider incorporating foods rich in vitamins B complex as part of one’s diet. Medical research has shown the deficiencies in Vitamin B complex is related to symptoms such as anxiety. Eating a diet rich in Vitamin B, or taking a Vitamin B supplement is believed to help reduce feelings of stress and anxiety.
While feelings of anxiety are inevitable, chronic anxiety and panic attacks are recognized as a disorder that requires treatment. Chronic anxiety sets in when one finds himself or herself feeling anxious all the time, and to such a degree that the anxiety interferes with daily living (unable to concentrate, loss of sleep, suffering from poor health). Individuals with chronic anxiety need to seek professional help.
