How to Succeed at Drug Rehab and Get Past the Old Patterns
There are both success stories about drug rehab as well as stories that involve falling back into using drugs. Even for those people who don’t relapse, staying sober or clean is a constant struggle requiring one’s attention. Thinking about your whole future can be a great motivation for inner change that lasts.
There are different reasons why people don’t succeed at rehab. First it’s good to check for compatibility between the rehabilitation program you are using and your own personality. Many people do better in a 30 day facility because they are taken out of their daily environment of stress and ways to release the stress through drug abuse. There are programs at residential centers that are based on a Christian drug rehab approach, cognitive-behavioral philosophy and/or other psychological theories. Find one that works with your own view of life. For someone who as an atheist, a strictly religious approach may not be the best fit.
Continuing with psychotherapy as well as support, is very important to stay on top of the triggers that arise around drug abuse. You’ll be able to understand the reasons you want to relieve the inner tensions, what causes reactions and when you get tempted. This is key to success with rehab. Also remember that the consequences of cocaine, marijuana, street drugs and long term effects of ecstasycan impair your judgement and have hurt your organs over time. There are frightening picture on the internet of the way that the face and teeth look due to speed drug addiction over a period of time.
It is possible to not relapse back for some people with daily attendance to narcotics anonymous meetings based on the 12 step program. But, if you are someone that benefits with more structure, an inpatient residential program can provide a nurturing environment that gives you more intensive insight into yourself, healthy meals, regular drug testing to stay on track and group plus individual support. Change is possible and you need to believe in this and your highest potential. People wonder can you force someone into rehab but this is only the case for minors. If someone however is suicidal or homicidal as an adult, they can be assigned to an inpatient ward at a hospital for their own safety and safety of others.
You can succeed at breaking past the addiction. Take the first step for change.
